  [egypt - making time]

desperate for shade in the rising heat

outside the port, desperate car park mechanics ensue. new sparks dont help so its off with the fuel tank to play with the carbs. total elation as she starts with a throaty growl in a mass of black exhaust. two working bikes on the african continent!!!

aided by several compulsory armed convoys, we made some serious time due south in an attempt to catch the weekly ferry to sudan. with sirens blaring we blasted through towns with zero consideration for pedestrians, cattle or local traffic (we were told never to stop and just to keep up!). completely unnecessary although doug was pelted quite hard by an orange! not an ideal way to ride but dramatic (felt like royalty) and effective as we crossed the entire country in one 15 hour stint!

crossing the nile dam in aswan, we made it to the port in time to drive our bikes through the passenger doorway and onto the ferry. jammed in with bags of grain and an assortment of boxes, we were finally on our way to sudan.
