[mozambique - where your money goes] |

there are an estimated 2 million landmines in mozambique

strapping in to protective body armour

white lines are not to be crossed

demining here first requires vegetation clearance

followed by approximating location by metal detector

and delicate manual probing

the UXO is then marked (but not
detonated until all mines are located
to avoid confusing sniffer dogs through spread of TNT)

this anti-personnel mine is over ten years old but
still deadly despite having its trip wire removed

daily training for the sniffer dogs

primitive wooden homemade mines are also killers

work stops during midday heat

thankfully prosthetic limbs are now more advanced

rats better at sniffing mines than dogs?
